Loved the interview. It was a nice complementary piece to go along with the single. Hope they do another one with Zane post album launch. Felt like Zane really wanted to talk about the album more but just couldn't for obvious reasons

Far away

I watched the whole Zane interview before listening to the song. The feeling of nostalgia hit me hard. I'm 43, been listening to them since I was 16, maybe?
THEN I heard the new tune, and man... it never ceases to amaze me how powerful listening to a song of your favorite band for the 1st time can be. What a fucking banger!!!!!!!!!!

Dig it. Sounds kinda Koi Nohms Yokan to me but like others have said, evolved.

It was definitely one of the better interviews they've done. Zane tends to gush quite a bit but you can tell he's genuinely a fan of the bands he interviews.

right,, this sounds very much like a mix of swerve city and genesis and i'm really into that sound! been listening to the single non-stop since it came out a couple of hours ago

I love the "Now We Sail, The Storm implodes" verse/bridge part. My favorite moments are generally the ones where the sonic space opens up and the song starts to float.

Quote from: StarSlinger on Jul 11, 2025, 02:38 AMI've only listened to it on my surround sound, but it does sound really good in headphones. Abe's drumming is awesome. He's got this really cool syncopated beat with the high hat and kick going during the verses, snare sounds LOUD too. The mix is pretty stellar, Chino's vocals are a little lower than I'd like but it works with the overall sound they're going for. His vocals have always been used like another instrument anyways

Interesting. One of my gripes with it is the snare is a bit too buried and soft (along with chino's vocals) in the mix. Snare cracks a little more with good headphones though. Guitars sound massive as usual.

Agree on the snare, I was expecting it to be honest as KNY and Diamond Eyes are the same for me. Probably ok for others but I like a loud snare  :D

The snare is loud; the guitars are louder. Everyone is swarming all over that mix.
I could float here forever

Quote from: thatdeftkid on Jul 11, 2025, 01:27 AMChino even said "there's a lot of decisions that we made while making music that sometimes were hard decisions to make cuz it went against the grain but it's not gonna be a bad record, it's gonna be a good record."
He was reflecting on their attitude their whole career, not pinpointing this particular album.

I have a feeling this album, while sonically similar to Ohms and Koi, might mirror Diamond Eyes in terms of its role. Like how the title track of DE was a strong but less polarizing lead single, and the album lengths being similar. PM could be the setup for something "bigger" much like DE was to KNY. So instead of a trilogy as Abe mentioned in the interview it might turn out to be 2 distinct pairs. Just my weird reaching thoughts—MMIAM was fucking amazing btw :)
We've been possessed by these changing times

gavinkfox

They just announced a 2026 UK tour.

GR1X7S

I love these lyrics for an opener

"Now we sail
The storm implodes
Exploring your fate
Now we sail, starting now"

It's feels like a mission statement to the listener, like get ready we're about to take you on this ride. It probably wasn't sequenced for that reason but it works

Gaz

the song sounds huge, the production is so good, really like it. If that is a taster for what the rest of the album is like, then roll on 22nd August!

CalDavCan

just woke up to a tour announcement ....wtf is going on  :)  what a crazy 24 hours

That bridge is so ethereal it hurts

Am I the only one who thinks this song is a completely new Deftones vibe?

Everyone's comparing it to old songs and albums, but I only hear a slight similarity to Swerve City, but otherwise it's a completely different sound from them and Chino too, even Ohms sounds more "Deftones" than this song and album aesthetic, the titles and all... AND I COMPLETELY LOVE IT!!

I completely agree with you. To me it sounds different even how the vocals and the timing of the vocals are different. Freaking love this band so much.

Exacly!! And to me, I even hear a bit of "Crosses" inspiration in the creativity of Chino's voice in this song, mixed with those raw screams in the middle with Deftones' instrumental it is the perfect combination!

So hyped to hear the next single!!

Btw, any ideas when the 2nd single is coming out?! My bet is August 1st, it´s a friday and it´s in the middle of the album release and 1st single. Probably with a videoclip.

Kinda random that they didn´t release this song with a videoclip, I was really expecting the videoclip with this one

After a few listens:

Great track, great opener-- they called it "bombastic" in the Zane interview and I 100% agree.

In the context of the whole album, I think it will shine even more. The brevity of the track will likely feed perfectly into Locked Club.

I became a fan ~2016, so I had the fortune of hearing most of their records whole. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a track like Diamond Eyes maybe felt the same as MMIAM, as a single; but in context of Royal and CMND/CTRL, the shorter length is perfect for that record's momentum.

Everyone sounds great, but Chino crushes it here. His voice sounds more youthful than on Ohms.
