the Zane Lowe interview was fantastic, one of the best for a long, long time. So happy they are still going and have overcome everything that has happened to them as humans over the years, in their aging years they are as big as ever. amazing

Yeah. They carried themselves so well with very difficult and personal topics. The whole interview wasn't like that, there were of course parts when they talked about the album, but some parts got very deep. Loved every bit of what they had to say about how they've been in recent years.
For a 1000 days, you've been staring away...

One of my favorite parts of the interview was Chino explaining where the title for Private Music came from, especially after all of the berserk fan speculation. Is it a reference to an obscure 80's German record label? Or is it a reference to Eros? IS IT Eros?

Nope, it's the name of the folder he was keeping the album in on his computer. He'd probably laugh his ass off at us.

Far away

The more I look at the album cover, the more I like it. Hopefully the booklet gonna be great as well!

I think this single leaves me wanting more than any other single of their's in recent memory. Ohms was awesome but I was cool, I can wait.. Prayers/Triangles was also nice. Leathers, Rocket Skates, HITE, were also fairly satiating. I think maybe Minerva was the only other single that left me this curious about the album direction and just wanting to hear more so badly.

do you guys think there will be a second or third single coming in the next weeks?

LG95

Genesis was the 2nd single off Ohms and came out a week before the album.

I imagine they'll do a similar thing this time.
I could float here forever

Asphorra

hopefully, i really can't wait for the rest to come out

Inkblades

I hope a second single is just a week before the 22nd and not early August. I can go a week without listening, but I'll struggle with anything more than that. I really want to hear the rest of the album in one shot.

Same. I doubt I'll be able to hold strong if they release another single but I'd really like to at least TRY and go into this one knowing as little as possible. Long gone are the days of hearing Rapture or Beware via blurry cellphone footage long before the album releases.

Everyone's comparing it to old songs and albums, but I only hear a slight similarity to Swerve City, but otherwise it's a completely different sound from them and Chino too, even Ohms sounds more "Deftones" than this song and album aesthetic, the titles and all... AND I COMPLETELY LOVE IT!!
I agree. It's unmistakably deftones. But like every single album of theirs, it has a vibe. And in this case a massive vibe. I think Chino nailed it when he used the term "reinvigorated". The song also feels very triumphant.

The one thing that really makes me wonder though is the artwork. Their art always reflects the vibe of the music very well. I have no idea what to expect from the rest of this album if the artwork is supposed to be an indication of what it sounds like. Chino mentioned sending the album to Frank very early so he could marinate in the songs and come up with art that magnifies and solidifies the record as a collective.

Just some random thoughts sorry for the wall of text
Throw your faith in me. I'll take you some place brand new....

StarSlinger

The album art has grown on me a lot. Seeing it next to their other albums, it fits right in. As an artist and graphic designer myself, I've made art for one of my friend's bands and he would do the same thing. He'd sneak me demos just so I could have an idea of what the vibe was. This is why all of their album covers and overall art direction always fits so well with the music. The snake really has me curious, as you said Rapture. Snakes are symbolic for so many different reasons. Really interested to see how the music lines up with it.

I feel you both so hard Lol I've already been trying to remind myself if they do release another one in the next coming weeks, to try to hold out. If a 2nd is released and I listen, that'd mean there's only 9 new songs. 10 new songs sounds better than 9 in my head, the more the merrier I guess Lol
And true that. Isn't it crazy how time flies?

Edit: let's do something cool

We name the animals off the album covers. BUT we have to name them off a song title from the album that you think represents the animal

White pony: Korea
Diamond eyes: prince
Gore: Gore
Private music: ecdysis or cXz
My dad says Deftones gay, but he doesn't know real music

Having not heard the full album, it would surely be "ecdysis" right? It means shedding skin or molting.. It's the only track title that is directly a callback to the album cover.

The more I listen, the more layers and complexity I hear. The band said it in Zane interview, this is the most focused they have been. That's how I would describe this track. Focused. Focused Deftones sound.

buflen

I do find it ironic that they say its their more focused work when it took them forever to finish.

They were saying how when they got together to write the songs, they were more focused than they've been. The reason it took so long is because they can only get together for a week at a time across many months to work on music. So albums just take longer to make but doesn't mean they aren't "focused". They're in their 50s now with other responsibilities like families. They can't just bang out quality music in a couple weeks like they did in their 20s, when they were partying all night, drinking, and experimenting with drugs.

They where focused as in taking time and working on it to make it sound as best as they can

I think the overall theme lyrically for the album might be about "shedding." Snake cover and ecdysis, Chino as well as the others sounded more introspective. As we all tend to get as we get older.
