If the entire album sounded more or less like My Mind is a Mountain, where would you rank it in their discography?
Top 5

1 Kny
2 PM
3 St
4 De
5 Snw

I guess top 3, the sound is amazing I love how reverb it is with being overbearing, same with the guitar its a very heavy and spacey sound,

Like idc if u guys will say "ur just saying that because its new" its true its really good quality, and rhis is my type of music

I don't know if they can top the sound of Self-Titled for me. I just fucking love that record, it's my personal favorite. Something about the whole production on that album I just love. The guitars sound warm and heavy, the drums are punchy, it just has a whole vibe that I love. But if the new record sounds like MMIAM, then I dunno it might be top 5.

Self titled is so fucking good dude, I have the ruby red vinyl, but I got a cheap vinyl player so it sounds ass, but atleast I got the vinyl

Anyways, the guitar on that album is so like, heavy and just raw, and the opening to hexagram that dirty clean tone is so MWAH, CHEF KISS, is like idk how to explain it but its like a pinch, and like a click [makes no sense but to me it does kinda]

ST is my daughter's fav album ever. She is almost 18. She said she doesn't think anything will ever top it. Just like when I first heard ATF in 98 I knew "This is the best music I have ever heard and pretty sure this will be my GOAT album forever." Well, it still is.

Feiticiera might be my favorite opening track of all time, but Hexagram is probably their *best* opener. SO Deftones, yet so unique. Can not be replicated. It's a sound of it;s own. A "one of one" if you will. I totally get what you mean Dawnofwar
Throw your faith in me. I'll take you some place brand new....

Quote from: StarSlinger on Jul 13, 2025, 03:57 AMI'm kind of at the point where I'd be totally fine if they gave us more of what they do best. They're 10 albums into their career. I don't necessarily need them to reinvent the wheel. They seem to be experimenting with the overall production sound and feel more so than the song writing side of things this time.

The single sounds like they handed Nick the album "Inlet" by Hum and were like, "We want it to sound like this." And I mean that as a huge compliment. Inlet is one of the best sounding records of recent memory. I love that huge wall of sound with a touch of shoegaze element to it.

I'd be totally fine if the whole record sounds like that. I'm pretty open to whatever they throw at us, but I feel like this album might just be Deftones doubling down on their sound. But who knows, they always keep us guessing.

I actually came here to say pretty much the exact same thing.

The more I listen the more it sounds like someone asked Hum to write/produce/perform  a Deftones song.

It sounds massive.

Also, I keep hearing similarities between this and Genesis. Also the marching beat sounds like Urania but a bunch of people already said that.

I can't say totally yet until I hear the album, but two things have me very excited:

1. Stephen's guitar tone on this song is probably my favorite it's been in awhile. MMIAM has been getting a lot of comparisons to Hum, and for good reason. Their older stuff always had that Hum influence, but around Diamond Eyes, his Meshuggah influence kind of won over. Meshuggah's cool, but I personally missed that more staticky, dissonant, almost fuzzy sound.

2. Chino's screams on MMIAM don't have that tinny filter effect that the screams on Gore and Ohms had. He's probably never going to sound like ATF or even DE-era screaming again, but it sounds much improved over the last two albums IMO.

nicklav

I want more walls of sound like Minerva and Hexagram.

What happened with MMIAM video, could be the screenshots used on Instagram are from the next single?

I was thinking the same. Like maybe MMIAM is just a teaser/album announcement single, and the next single will maybe be something more "radio friendly" for lack of a better phrase; along with a music video? They also might be waiting to release the music video in a couple weeks to gain more momentum on the hype without having to release a second single? Just space out the music video release a bit to coincide with the album release date.

I kinda hope we don't get another single, I'm fine with what they gave us and I can wait til the album comes out.

Yes,could be that.To fill more the lack until the next single and the album release.

I don't think the video was for another song as the director and director of photography leaked and it was for MMIAM but I really don't know why it has not released. its very weird.

I can't even count how many times I've listened to it.

It's been playing on repeat in my head.

Inkblades

Either they are putting the finishing touches on the video and it'll drop soon or they decided they didn't like it at the last minute and scrapped it.

sharinglungs

Maybe they release the video on Tuesday?

LG95

It is strange they didn't immediately drop it with a video.

Prayers/Triangles was released with a visualizer video before the official video was released.  Probably coming soon.
Music is a lot like a giant spider that lives in your attic. You know it's there, and you might hear a faint scratching, but you're never quite sure what it's up to. And you certainly don't want to get too close, in case it starts playing the tuba.

Couldnt agree more. Especially the guitar tone part. Im also glad Chino didnt tried to scream his head off too much. I love the more agressive stuff but the dude is in his mid 50's, theres no way he can keep screaming like he used to. Its fine to just do it in small dosis if or when the music asks him to.

At least in MMIAM, it was the perfect spot for everything. Idk if Stef is using a 6 or 7 string guitar on the song, but Im glad its not a fucking 8, 9 or whatever the fuck. This is their sound I fell in love with. Its perfect, not too much chugging.

Thank God.

i don't think they scrapped it because it would just be a huge waste of money and i'm not sure the label would've appreciated the
lost money. the most logical reason would be that it's still in the making and needs a few touches or theyre waiting to release it some time soon, maybe at the same time as the second single if there's one
