I think a lot of it is just younger people who just got into deftones or are more casual fans. Never had a Deftones album cycle and prob mainly like the TikTok tracks.  This album was def made for them.

Also, some of their most popular songs on tik tok are from SNW, and that albumand S/T widely considered their worse until Gore. These guy's are in their 50s and aren't pissed off anymore, so you aren't getting another ATF.

Nick has produced 3 of their best albums that are also actually cohesive.  SNW is a mess in that regard

Nah I actually had extremely high hopes for this album.  I was happy about their success and they then dropped this album and it's clear what the intent was.  I don't need another ATF.  I want a good album.  I love ohms.  It's one of their best.  This, is not. 

Also, I don't know how writing a dark album equates to being angry or "pissed off" lol.  Ohms is a dark album.  The cure been dropping dark albums forever.  Doesn't mean it's angry. 

anniversary of an uninteresting event is an incredible track that's dark and it's not angry at all.  Idk man.  Some people just don't really grasp it I suppose.  I just don't enjoy Nicktoktones

Loved this one straight away, the riffs feel old school. I did laugh at the bass part in the intro though, it reminded me of Filter. ["Wow, this really is old school"] Like the verse from "Gerbil", or something. I was surprised that the opening synth didn't play a bigger part in the overall melody though.

I've mentioned this exact thing about Gerbil, but I don't think most get the reference. Glad to see someone else mention it.

don't see myself listening to anything else. just don't like the melodies in the other songs, they're either boring or plain ugly.

i really dislike diamond eyes and every subsequent album got better for me but this one doesn't really outdo ohms, i'd be fine if the boys called it quits after private music but good for them that they still have tons of traction

I liked the new record and I would have the same opinion even if everyone else in here hated it. I liked it because I liked it, not because its popular. Its like people giving two shits about "even Fantano seemed to like it". Who? C'mon now.

Is it my favorite? No, but thats fine. Its a really good, solid work and I'm enjoying a lot. 7.5/8 out of 10 is really good.

Just enjoy it. Let them have their opinions. It does not invalidate yours, right?

The drumming is way more simplified on this album too. It's much the same beat throughout with splashy cymbals than the tight intricate high hat, snare and toms that Abe usually does. Ohms was a masterclass in it. I wonder if PM is deliberately about the music serving the vocal?

It's okay to have different opinions folks. I can understand both sides. Myself I'm somewhere in the middle, but closer to the positive opinions. I like the album a lot, but I can see the song structures are at times a bit simple and the sound is pretty upbeat most of the time. I'm just glad they're still making good music, and I definitely don't think they're trying to sell out or something like that, but I can see how the current sound isn't for everyone. That's okay, the old classics won't dissapear all of a sudden. I like that the entire discography of the band is so diverse.

I can't believe it's been less than a week since release. That album rollout was awesome. I wonder if they have anything else cooking up for this cycle besides touring.
