Surprised to realize that private music is currently number two on the Qobuz download charts:

You like to see it.

Lol, unfortunately it's based on Record Sales for the first week. Closest they came was with White Pony that debuted at #2, just behind Stained "Break the Cycle". If memory serves.

Me too. Although I am surprised to feel like I need to give it a break which I have for almost 36 hours now or more? I'm hoping it's just something else. I know what I mean by that but I don't. I've probably listened to the record 15 times and I only listen to it all the way through now. I love that synth in ecdysis so much and when I attach myself to stuff like that, I am so afraid of listening to it again and playing it out from experience. i'm glad my life is pretty full though and that I like other stuff. I've been dissecting the latest cure record for a long time now. But doing the same with it, being very careful with it not to overdo it. I wasn't always that way and it's weird that Deftones albums number two through five never burnt out on me. Maybe around the fur. But that was then.

Also, for what it's worth channel 3 is a waste of time for me. I have like 40 minutes left but so far it's just odd and foreign videos. Probably Chino 100%. Anyways, one and two were pretty cool but three so far I haven't even Been reminded of them. Maybe it's just not for everyone. The Patron shit was cool? Not that I haven't seen it live. And thank you guys again openly for all the people that shared that with me. The channels and the  live performance.... Thank you so much. Enjoyed it. Edit: (again) Chino remix of war song? All right, OK worth it

This record is the best of this time. If any of the other releases dropped at this time they wouldn't hit like this one does. Its all relative. Not sure if this makes sense. But it does to me. Plus the bourbon

The bts of A Very Good Year was awesome on channel 3. Didn't know anything else.

Corleone

This is a great album, been listening since White Pony. My rankings of albums are challenging but here it is:

White Pony
Around the Fur
Deftones
KNY
Private music
Diamond Eyes
B-Sides
Ohms
Adrenaline
SNW
Gore

I like all of the albums so this isn't really saying much.

Kimdracula976

Private Music has taken over Diamond eyes and KNY spot for me.

SNW
WP
PM
DE
S/T
KNY
OHMS
GORE

ATF and Adrenaline, I just can't rank them they are timeless.

I finally had a chance to listen to the album Friday night.

Before Friday, I had only heard "My Mind Is a Mountain", then tried to avoid most other spoilers.

I think it is really good.  I'm really happy that Deftones is still putting out great music in 2025.  Just like all their other albums, this one has it's own vibe.  It has their distinct sound, but also goes in some directions they haven't explored before.  The song writing is really good.  Abe's Drums and Franks Synths/Samples are what surprised me the most.

I am not sure where I rank with their other albums.  That is usually something I won't really think about for a few years.

But I do have some critiques...

Disclaimer: I listened to a CD on some good quality speakers.

The mix/master on Private Music sounds a lot different from all their other albums to me.

The best way I can describe it... A lot of the bass sounds like it is just a constant low sine wave 808 coming from a synthesizer, that just keeps changing to the root note of whatever chord is being played.

It just feels like you are getting hit with a brick wall of bass all the way from the beginning to the end.  Which may have been intentional?  But it seems to crowd all the other instruments a lot and fatigues my ears more than any other album they have done.

I really don't want to be negative, but thought I would share.  Maybe someone else has mentioned something similar already.

Another Disclaimer: I am honestly not sure how much of this is caused by the style of bass playing and how much is the mix/mastering choice.

Another Disclaimer: I'm really not trying to hate on the new bass player Fred. I have seen him play with Deftones live and he is great with that.  I absolutely don't want to jump to any conclusions of what happened with the previous bass player Sergio (because we will never know every detail), and am not trying to take any sides.

Another Disclaimer: I am a bass player, so probably pay too much attention to bass when I listen.

In locked club, the way Chino sings:

"So in love with the calm... and the chaos (((chaos)))"

One of my favorite moments ever
Good evening... and welcome to the white pony

Loved this one straight away, the riffs feel old school. I did laugh at the bass part in the intro though, it reminded me of Filter. ["Wow, this really is old school"] Like the verse from "Gerbil", or something. I was surprised that the opening synth didn't play a bigger part in the overall melody though.

I've mentioned this exact thing about Gerbil, but I don't think most get the reference. Glad to see someone else mention it.

Oh wow.  When I heard it, I instantly thought of Filter.  But was mostly thinking about "Hey Man Nice Shot".  I just listened to "Gerbil" again now, and it is even more similar.  Good ear.

really like souvenir and motm
quite like infinite source, i think about you and departing the body
don't see myself listening to anything else. just don't like the melodies in the other songs, they're either boring or plain ugly.

i really dislike diamond eyes and every subsequent album got better for me but this one doesn't really outdo ohms, i'd be fine if the boys called it quits after private music but good for them that they still have tons of traction
