Also, hearing Sergio's backing vocals in Spell makes me sad. It's such a great addition in that song.

I'll just wait for your limbs to touch me.

Yesss you get it.  That part is perfection.  The lyrics, the delivery, the atmosphere.

I love that chino stays in a lower register for a lot of that song. That breath-y whisper against heavy music is one of my favorite things about their sound and I always want more of it.

Same.  It seems on the Nick albums, he does more traditional type singing even though it's still unique due to his style and voice, it's just not what I want from the band

Dude... for the last 30 minutes or so I haven't stopped thinking about the "Nick sound vs Terry sound" debate in my head lol...

He does it a little bit here and there. Second half of the cXz chorus for example, and in the verses of Milk.

Like, I was listening to Ohms and then went to private music, and Ohms feels more mature?

I still love the more accessible, straightforward nature of the Nick songs, but some are indeed corny and bad.

Yeahs it's a major contrast.  They do sound more mature than the nick albums.  The songwriting feels more natural and genuine w Terry too.  They even said Nick basically puts the songs together for them.

I'm just really starting to dislike the Nick trilogy the more I think about it.

Chinos vocals are much more haunting and ominous with Terry.  The entire band is.  That's what makes Deftones special to me.

What's your take on Matt Hyde's work on Gore?

I also made this post on the Reddit.  It describes it well imo.

Are the Nick albums for fans of more standard rock music?

I feel koi, DE, and PM are less atmospheric than most of their albums.  I see people constantly claim koi is more experimental, but it's not at all lol.  They're more straightforward and standard sounding.  Self titled is a hazy dreamscape of doom.  White Pony is like listening to Lost Highway by David Lynch in audio form.  Ohms is an album that creates an atmosphere of a night time haunting drive.  I feel the nick trilogy lovers are more fans of standard rock music.

About gore, I think it sounds bad but I appreciate what they were trying to do.  Interesting ideas, but fell short.  With Terry, I think it could have been special although some of the songs in general aren't my cup of tea.

There is something to that. Like I said, the most praised song on PM by reddit sounds like a pop punk song, and the least praised one sounds like old school Deftones. There's a reason Sextape became one of their most popular songs.

However, I'll also say this - while I can definitely understand liking Ohms instrumentally more than PM, Chino's performance is one hundred percent improved here IMO. He's grating and pitchy on more than a couple songs on Ohms. And even if DE and KNY was taking them in a more commercial direction, you have to at least admit he SOUNDS great on those records.

I much prefer how he sounds on ohms.  He sounds good always, but he sounds almost too plain and some of the vocal melodies on PM are kind of standard imo.

About gore a bit more. NCould you imagine hearts/wires w terry production?  Could seriously be a rival to digital bath.  Imagine how pristine and haunting it would be.  Acid hologram and geometric headdress as well were very interesting ideas.

RikshawHoward

I agree with all of that re: inkblades

And yeah, infinite source is a disgrace.  Sure, it's a catchy song which I have zero issue with, but it's like the song was written with intent to cash in.  I can't respect that and it saddens me.

Locked Club is my fav song on the album.  The chorus is dreamy and dark which I love.  The verses are great too.

Locked Club definitely has my favorite chorus.

I like the verses a lot on Infinite Source, but the chorus is a little too on the nose for me.

The chorus on Pompeji is the best example of that for me. I think that song could have been incredible had he done something better with it.

Yeah and the lyrics are pretty cringe lol

I also enjoy souvenir a lot.  Kind of reminds me of SNW.  The huge riff in the middle is great with chino doing the spooky effect heavy stuff over it reminded me of white pony era chino.

I NEED a Terry Date version of Hearts/Wires
