Nothing they ever do makes any sense. Thats the point. Self distributing Eros as private music, soon to be public finally, does make sense. I didn't say that IS what is happening. Just throwing it out there for fun. Easy now

guizz

Easy now what? you asked a question, I replied with what I consider an obvious answer. I don't think I was aggressive or anything. The timing obviously make no sense with an Eros release.

hey i found this video awhile ago that dates back from a decade ago and was wondering if this is a leak and legit,, if it's not then i would really like to know where it came from because it sounds quite nice https://youtu.be/SuLDUAnYHh0?si=djKk9N-Nup2YjVgo (also not sure if this has been talked about in the past, if so then sorry!)

That's not Deftones

bummer,, have an idea of which band this is from?

I was on the "Maybe one day" train, but the Zane Lowe interview has quashed all my belief that Eros will ever see the light of day...unless it leaks. It's clear Chino doesn't think much of it.

Deftones (read Chino) have a hard time finishing an album that they are currently working on. Can't see them finishing an album that has been on shelves for years, especially one Chino don't like very much, as what is left to do is mostly vocals.

Most logical conclusion is that it will never get released, but I am sure they will never say that out loud because they don't want the backlash.

^ Fake. This is the closest we have:

Then also Smile, Dallas and Trempest (mentioned by Chi on the old deftones.com blog) , some of which might be listed on that board under different song titles.

I was around when Chino leaked "Smile" on the official Deftones account, and luckily ripped it as MP3.

Can someone catch me up?  At this point, are "Smile" and the instrumental jam "Dallas" still the only audio that has leaked from the Eros sessions?

Are there any other short instrumentals or anything that is confirmed as legit?  I see a few other short audio clips on Youtube labeled as "Deftones Eros", but don't know if they are really Deftones.

"Smile"

"Dallas"

Video of that performance was out there for a while as I recall.
One last Thing...You Should Beware the Content!!

Thank God that you........ love..... at all.

LG95

They performed it twice; one's still up in audio, one's still up in video.
I could float here forever

Thanks!

I have heard "Melanie" a long time ago, but forget about it sometimes.

I guess that is all there is...

well, we 'might' have trempest. in the videos of the eros sessions there is chi steph and abe all jamming out to a song of theirs which sounds very much like what chi said trempest sounded like. heavy, and a fuckload of groove. its such a good snippet and i dont know why it doesnt get the recognition it deserves, of course, if it is trempest. it could be another song tho.

Thanks!  Is this the one your are talking about?  I found it after I made my last post here.  Is there anywhere I can see the video you are talking about, that actually shows them in the room jamming?

I also found this, which people say was uploaded on either the Deftones Myspace or Chino's Myspace back in 2008.  So I guess it might have been part of Eros.

Someone also put together this video, which sums up all the material that might be part of Eros.

...

So that makes the complete list:

1.) Smile (This is the only mixed and mastered song that has been released.  Chino released it on the Deftones Youtube channel during 2014.)
2.) Dallas (A rough recording is available.  It is a studio rehearsal of the band in a room together.  There is also video of the performance.  Chino is playing bass, Chi is on guitar, Abe is on drums.)
3.) Trempest? (A rough recording is available, which sounds like a studio rehearsal of the band in a room together.)
4.) You've Seen The Butcher (Electronic Beat released on Myspace) (Different from the song with this title that was released on the Diamond Eyes album.)
5.) Melanie (Performed live on 09/18/08 and one other date.  No known studio recordings have leaked.)

i think your spot on. theres also a picture of a whiteboard shoeing a tracklist of 8 songs something along the lines of 'asia, briana, candy, mercedes' cant rememebr what else is on their but it was posted earlier on in this thread.

Thanks for the help catching me up!  I'll try to skim through more of this thread eventually.

Life was kind of crazy back then, so I missed out on some stuff that happened between 2004-2009.

I was really happy to find all the Bob Ezrin Saturday Night Wrist demos years later.  Felt like Christmas.

I wish there was more Eros stuff available, but am happy with whatever I can find.

I've always suspected that whatever musical elements, if any, that persisted with the guys ended up being reused or absorbed in later releases and that Eros doesn't really exist.

This article was in The Guardian UK today. I don't think there's any chance it ever materialises.

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2025/aug/21/deftones-singer-chino-moreno-ive-got-hundreds-of-drawings-of-myself-in-my-house

Edit - I'll pull the pertinent part:

I listen to a lot of the songs from Eros [Deftones' unfinished sixth album, abandoned after bassist Chi Cheng was left comatose after a car crash in 2008; he died of complications from the accident in 2013] floating around the internet – Dallas especially. Do you think that record will ever see the light of day? weavermachine
We're always asked about Eros. It will most likely never see the light of day. That would involve going back to that period and resurrecting unfinished things, and somehow bringing them to completion. Dallas is the only song that was anywhere near finished. This new album started with ideas we'd been working on alone, through the pandemic. And when we got together to actually start making the record, none of us wanted to look back at those ideas from the pandemic – we wanted to capture the moment we're in today. So going back to try to capture what was happening back during Eros, and finishing those ideas, doesn't really make sense.
