That post came from a profile who registered today so I wouldn't put much thought into it

Extremely unlikely it gets leaked this early. Albums these days don't leak until a day MAYBE 2 days ahead of schedule.

Trust. Every one of us will know within 10 mins of when it leaks. So long as we keep hanging around here.

i would say 98% of the world doesn't really care that much about the leak.

My only real complaint about the new stuff so far is the production. Listening to the drums on Radiant City compared to MotM is a world of difference. Clear and punchy on the former.

You really can't beat Terry Date as an engineer though.

buflen

I thought the drums sounded great on MMIAM, so it could be track dependant.

The more I listen to Milky the more ATF era creeps in for me. Cannot explain why, maybe the melodies I dunno.

It's what Abe is doing on the drums for me. Total BQAD vibes.

Quote from: Zenesis on Aug 08, 2025, 03:46 PMI understand the sentiment, but as a fan from the start, I don't believe they ever had a sound to stray from. Adrenaline did not sound like their reggae infused rock demos. When Around the Fur came out, I thought it sounded nothing like Adrenaline. That's what I loved about it and I continue to love about them to this day. In a long list of bands I've enjoyed in my lifetime, they stand alone in ability to make me feel that way.

This is pretty much the point I was trying to make. They've always changed up their sound with every album from the very beginning, while still remaining true to themselves. Which is why I don't get the complaint from older fans when they say "I prefer their old stuff." or "their new stuff just isn't the same as the old stuff." Like, no what you really mean is you just like their first two albums and that's ok. But fans that keep going on about it 20+ years later, like give it a rest..

Im one of those old fans and Im only speaking for myself here, but the thing is, Deftones was the 1st band I fell in love with, so their early records are like a really vivid memory imprinted in my mind. Ever since, its been like a drug. I keep trying to relive and feel the same dopamine hits that their first records gave me. Its not fair to them, nor me, tbh, but I dont give a fuck, no offense. Thats is why when I heard MMIAM I was teleported back. It has THAT vibe of the Deftones I discovered as a kid. I even teared up a little, no shit. Lame, I know, but oh well.

Their 1st 4 records are immaculate to me and nothing will ever get close to it. Its just because they helped me find myself during those years. Im not saying other records after the S/T are bad, I just keep trying to replicate that guitar tone, or a song feel, you know?

Theres a lot of their newer shit that I really like. I love Diamond eyes, for instance and most of Ohms. I think KNY is really solid. Some stuff in SNW too, etc.

It is what it is. I used to think they could do no wrong and nowdays its easier to accept they are only human. Its ok to not dig some songs or even dislike it. I guess thats the benefit of getting older. Things slow down... a lot, lol.

Cheers.

I feel this 100% Especially Around the Fur and White Pony. Those were backdrops and soundtracks to some very pivotal moments in my life. Like core memories formed to RX Queen and MX that are special to me. I'm always hoping for that all over again. Not fair to the band but it is what it is...

Just want to throw my hat in as well. Also been a fan since the '90s. I found them during ATF so this is my 8th album cycle. Deftones album drops are like genuine life events for me. I always  at least try to save vacation time so I can focus purely on the album. And as mentioned earlier, it's just such a great feeling to be in my 40s now, but have something that I look forward to that makes me feel like I'm in my 20s. Every single album I have adored. I do not love any other album more than the next (except ATF which will always be my GOAT).

I guess the only thing I cannot relate to is the excitement fading. It has never faded for me. Every single album I feel just excited as I did during my first album drop, watching all the leaks and song names. My entire family knows that every few years, I have about a month where my entire focus is this new album. This was the longest wait ever, but I have a feeling it's going to be worth every moment of it. I don't know how many more times we'll get to do this. For all we know this could be the last. I am so thankful that the band continues to make music. I know they do it for themselves and not for us, but it means everything to me that they are willing to make that music and share it with us.

But yeah I just enjoy the moment and I cannot wait for this thing to drop :) I have multiple CDs ordered, a new shirt ordered, and my digital order so I am ready to rock!
Throw your faith in me. I'll take you some place brand new....

Couldn't agree more man. My wife, kids and friends know when it's Deftones album release time because it completely consumes me.  I'm so glad we have this place to talk about our favorite band because nobody in my personal life truly gets them like I do.
