So looking forward to a proper new album feature interview.

I swear, a Deftones album rollout is the closest I get to kid-at-Christmas excitement these days. I want the new toys.

I'm not sure what I did there to show all the extra bullshit while I responded to LG. Sorry. Anyways, I think I'm more excited for this album than I have been since diamond eyes' roll out. Before that it was EROS. Watching those clips as they came out trying to hear band practice as well as I could. The whole aesthetic to that whole thing had me hard. After that, I'm always excited, but the singles haven't grabbed me like these ones. The eros and diamond eyes excitement just came from not having anything since Saturday night wrist which I loved. And we still had cheng then....And then being curious about what the band would sound like post-Chi was sad but invigorating because of the curiosity. The last records since SNW, didn't quite do it for me like the first ones. Great records though and it's been said 1 billion times that shows how great the band is.

Quote from: buflen on Aug 09, 2025, 07:34 PMI would actually not love if I was in a band, I'd finish my part, all the music is recorded, then the singer takes a year to record his vocals in between shows of side projects, decides everything including song names and songs order, then I got to follow my emails to know what is up. I think it was even worse with SNW where Chino and Shaun Lopez would completely restructure some of the songs, and then include a dumb ad lib about blow jobs and english having bad teeth.
I feel like I am being mean to Chino here, but I think Steph is getting a lot of flack, deservedly so for certain things, but I don't blame him for everything.

I agree, sometimes I'm frustrated with Steph's perceived lack of interest, however it makes a lot of sense from his perspective that he's just the axeman and has to wait on the rest of the process.

For me it's Hexagram. I remember buying the cd on release day and just wasn't vibing with Hex. It grew on me within a week. Now it's like top 5 favorite songs. But initially I just wasn't vibing with it at all for some reason.

Same, Hex was jarring on first listen (first thing I heard from the leaked stuff) I think it was the rough edit but even the album version to me sounded so rough and unpolished compared to WP. I vibed with it like a motherfucker though when I saw them play it live in 2003.

Hexagram will always be my fav. I remember downloading it early and burning it so I could take it to school so me and Buddy could listen. We skipped the first two classes sitting in his car just listening to it on repeat *memories*

I remember bumpin mine pulling up to a parking spot at their LA concert on it's release day. Lmao

Beautiful memory. Which venue was that?

Nice! Yeah self titled holds a special place in my heart. It was the first new release of their's since becoming a fan. I had turned 16 around the time it came out and had got my license. I skipped school that morning so I could run to the store and buy the album. I drove around with it on repeat. That album left a mark and it was essentially my soundtrack in my mid teens through high school. Hugely influential for me. It's always going to be my personal favorite Deftones album, and one of my favorite albums of all time, period.

S/T will always be my number two for very similar reasons.

Quote from: Doofaes on Aug 09, 2025, 07:04 PMI think I'm a bit more concerned about Steph's apparent lack of connectedness to the album than many here... from the one interview we got it seems like he has very little idea about the record or what's on it, and the others seem to be annoyed with him. I know there's always been a tense Chino-Steph dynamic that seems to boil over into the public most album releases... but he seems super distanced from the band now. I'll be seeing the tour kickoff show in Vancouver on August 22nd, and its not even clear to me if Steph will be crossing the border to play the gig? I've seen Deftones many times, and I just can't really picture how the show would feel with only three of the band members present...

Also, I am curious why is there so little promotion for this album? On the one interview so far they spent more time talking about the writing of White Pony and Eros than they did the new album. I don't need to hear about how White Pony was written or what happened with Eros any more, ten, fifteen, twenty years later... But I sure would be interested to know if the band is excited about their new music!

I guess the silver lining is that in knowing so little about Private Music it's going to be a pretty fun total surprise to see what we get... my fingers are crossed for something magical...

Good commentary...
Good evening... and welcome to the white pony

Quote from: StarSlinger on Aug 09, 2025, 08:09 PMThey definitely should have promoted the second single a little bit. I've noticed a strong lack of reaction/cover videos on YouTube compared to MMIAM. A lot of people don't even know they dropped a second single.

Oh well, you're in luck, I just did a "playthrough" video... just to show how I think Stef's parts are played, I don't know how the clean part is played so I just skipped it... and I messed up a little near the end but it's just an approximation of how I think it's played. I didn't record audio, its just the official track playing.

Quote from: sharinglungs on Aug 09, 2025, 08:00 PMEven when they talked about milk of the madonna on last nights episode, Stef said that Chino came up with a lot of cool shit on the album. Vocals and guitars. I don't think i've heard Stef talk so positive about Chinos work.

Concerning news for those that disliked Gore for being a ,,Chino album"

DefFsho

Now I'm starting to wonder if this being the biggest lapse between albums is because of Chino concentrating on vocals more than he ever has. He literally is using effects that he has used before or very close. And being corrected earlier on that, Chino was the one who said old heads, would like this album Makes sense. I think there's a lot of surprise in store for us with guitars and vocals and maybe more. Always more... save the part where you want to say it's taking a long time because they are older and have the money and have the success and maybe that's true but I'm thinking more along the lines of streamlining and getting this album just right. For us old heads. You make the old heads happy you make everybody happy

DefFsho

I hope I'm right because most of you would be happy with that I would think. I know I miss a lot. It's natural.

Man I need this full album badly. Shits gonna be so good

White Pony. My sisters bf at the time gave it to me on my birthday. That album slowly consumed/challenged me and changed how I listened to music...So S/T was my first build up hype of an album release that delivered.

Good evening... and welcome to the white pony

Moana91

Maybe Milk was more of a "quiet" single and will get a 3rd single with a music video?

They truly didn't tease Milk AT ALL, and I don't think it has a music video.

I would love to read more first impressions from the lucky people who were invited to that listening event. But I'm sure they signed something..

honestly i wouldn't be surprised if there was a third single, considering this tweet (https://x.com/beat_release/status/1949542330345852936) that was previously mentioned, has the song title ecdysis in it. the tweet is probably written by a pr team
