I really really hope so...

Far away

Some of you guys pay too much attention to reddit, tik tok and all that garbage online.

Quote from: LG95 on Aug 11, 2025, 09:17 AMI think — I might be wrong — there's an embargo for reviews until next week.

Really? Damn - next week then!

LG95

I'm not 100% on it — I rarely read reviews and there are possibly some variable rules — but I think in general publications these days can't put out a review until the week of release.

Yup. I listened to the intro but then cut it off as soon as Chino's vocals came on.

Holy shit!!!!! Can't believe that...

Seriously, has it taken a lot of discipline?

Ten years ago I would have easily folded and listened. But now that I'm a bit older, holding out is easier. Also there's a couple albums of theirs where I heard too much in advance and that can dampen the first listen. So this time I wanted to hear as little as possible because I know getting ten new Deftones songs in one shot is going to be an amazing experience.

Fantano praised Milk of the Madonna. That's two best track singles from him in a row. Can't wait for the 4/10 rating! Haha

Quote from: gavinkfox on Aug 11, 2025, 03:49 AMI've realistically listened to milk of the Madonna at least 75-100 times by now. It's so damn good

🤣🤣🤣

I have to admit, my initial euphoria has definitely receded... I still think the track is great, but now I hear it with a critical approach and I get that some people find it a bit "generic"... like, I'm starting to see where they may be coming from (hint: it may have to do with the drums)

I feel like both songs are missing something. I still think they are catchy, and I still think Chino finding melody in some of these riffs is a superhuman trait he has.

There's not a lot of nuance to either. It's just a wall of distortion. I hope they let some of the other 9 tracks breathe a bit.

Nothing weird creepy or sexy about these two songs, in my opinion.

Love this band, don't get me wrong. Can't wait to hear the other nine tracks.

I haven't listened to either single. I've been a fan since Adrenaline. Ever since discovering them, I've heard songs from the upcoming albums early. There have been a few cases over the years that I wish I hadn't heard a single prior to the album so this time I promised myself I wouldn't. I want to just hear them in the context of the album for the first time since listening to their first album. Younger me would have caved in by now. Older me is enjoying the anticipation, as days go by fast and I'm just enjoying this moment of looking forward to a new deftones album. It's the closest thing I have to capturing the child like feeling of looking forward to Christmas.

My problem is I get the new songs stuck in my head. So even though I've only given them a few listens, it feels like I've heard them 100 times because they just loop in my head constantly. Especially drum grooves. I've had the Madonna drum groove stuck in my head for 2 days.

That being said, I look at it from a different perspective. I'll be listening to these albums for decades, so it doesn't really affect me whether I hear the songs before the album or not. I still jam MOS or Change and they still hit the same as they did 20 years ago.

Love the "from above" and "from below" in separate verses. This song took a little more thought when writing the lyrics then I have personally heard in a long time or picked up on anyways. Again, if this is a peek into what the album has as far as depth and creativity, I'm going to love it. Heaven and hell

Interesting new discovery...

Amazon Music shows private music as explicit now. So we'll have one song with the word fuck or shit in it.

Apple Music JUST updated with this info:

Was checking it like half an hour ago and it didn't have the E next to it or next to Cut Hands.

Was listening to Daniel P Carter's rock show on BBC Radio 1 tonight and just before playing milk of the madonna he said this (my own transcription):

QuoteSo Deftones have a new album coming out. There's a lot of big talk going around online about it from people who have already heard it saying that Private Music is...ah I'm not even going to say it...but it is really really really good and one of the best albums in...I don't know...a minute. Super good.

Quote from: Moana91 on Aug 09, 2025, 06:26 AMWhat's a single from Deftones that you didn't like at first and then got better with time?

For me it's Hexagram. I remember buying the cd on release day and just wasn't vibing with Hex. It grew on me within a week. Now it's like top 5 favorite songs. But initially I just wasn't vibing with it at all for some reason.

Hexagram will always be my fav. I remember downloading it early and burning it so I could take it to school so me and Buddy could listen. We skipped the first two classes sitting in his car just listening to it on repeat *memories*

I remember bumpin mine pulling up to a parking spot at their LA concert on it's release day. Lmao

Beautiful memory. Which venue was that?

Amazon has now officially added a the tracks to the album page instead of Just the singles and posted the album run time. Not sure if it means anything, maybe we'll get some social media posts this week

So it's getting that kind of buzz. Interesting. That makes me think it could be overall album of the year level quality. Not that it matters because it'll be my AOTY regardless but that's awesome
